Portrait Lighting Mode shots typically have sharp focus on the subject's face and even focus fall off from the foreground to the background that's akin to that of a DSLR. Here the iPhone over blurs a chunk of hair on the the left side of the photo. Live Focus photos from the Note 8 look softer, but sometimes that can be more flattering for people's skin. Focus fall off is almost nonexistent and the subject looks more "cut out" from the background. This was taken in a dimly lit restaurant. It took a long time for the iPhone to get focus but the resulting portrait is impressive.
