After seven years of producing the Fog Fest, PFI disbanded, leaving the way for a new group of community-minded citizens, championed by Jean Headley-Darmody, to take on the leadership of the Fog Fest. The Fog Fest Organizing Group (FFOG) was formed in early 2000 and produced its first Fog Fest (the 15th annual) that following September. Board members included Karin Meyer, May Gee, Gail Benjamin, Peter Loeb, Jack Socher, Steven Phillips, Mary Ann Nihart, Sharon Osborn, Cindy Ollinger, Linda Jonas, Maxine Gonsalves, Ginny Jaquith, Nattie Juvland, Bruce Banco and Jack Magee, with Fred Howard elected as President and Jean Headley-Darmody acting as Fog Fest Coordinator. Jeff Cambra of Festival Productions and Richard Pedemonte and Co. were retained to produce the Fog Fest and provide the wide variety of arts and crafts booths and great food that have been a Fog Fest tradition.

The day she first told me that (I have since heard this wisdom many, many times), it sounded so right. I was 14, and that day was in February 1985. In fact, I can even say that, for 97 minutes during that opening-night screening of “The Breakfast Club” 30 years ago, everything made sense. If you smoked pot, you would dance maniacally like Emilio Estevez. Everyone — in every social group, no matter how well-adjusted they appeared — had been screwed up by their parents. And if you just stuck five high school archetypes in a library for a long Saturday of detention, no matter how varied their backgrounds, they would arrive at a cross-clique understanding.
