Diaz had something of a photojournalist side, too. Ward produced a Diaz photo of a youngish, smiling Chavez holding up a United Farm Workers union placard. Diaz also captured the groundbreaking ceremony for Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in East San Jose, which today has become a staging point for the immigrant rights movement.
